In Sokolnice the right wing of Napoleon’s Army was concentrated, towards which was aimed the major attack of the Austro-Russian Armies. Tough battles were fought especially for the chateau and also for the former chateau granary. After the end of the battle imprisoned in the granary were several hundred captured Russian soldiers and on the fields behind it in mass graves were buried the ones who fell. Another alleged mass grave is marked by the Cross of Conciliation in the street Pod Strį˛ķ.
Sokolnice chateau, in the mid 19th century rebuilt in Pseudo-Gothic style, today houses the Social Services Home; although only a part of the chateau park and a connected pheasantry are freely accessible. Still marked up to the present day in the pheasantry’s perimeter wall are six crosses, indicating shooting posts of the French Artillery during the Battle of Austerlitz.
In the centre of the village close to the village green lies a romantic pond with a small island, in the Balaton complex there is a wide range of sporting activities including recreational fishing.
