The village played a significant role in the Battle of Austerlitz. From Køíbky hillock above the village, where today stands a Neo-Romanesque chapel of St. Anthony Paduan, on the morning of the 2nd December 1805 the battle was started by artillery fire from Austrian cannons towards Telnice. Also from here Emperor Napoleon I. watched in the afternoon the retreat of the Allied Armies from the area around Sokolnice, Telnice and Žatèany. The battle ended in the afternoon with the fight of the French Infantry with Russian Imperial Guards of the Grand Duke Constantin, which also took place near Újezd and during which the original Chapel of St.Anthony burned down.
Nowadays Újezd is a natural centre of the southern part of the former battleground. Visitors can choose between several restaurants, there is also an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, riding club and other sporting facilities.
